Richards probably has more race suits than the rest of us have socks and undies so he was happy to donate a couple of his spares to the Shannons Memorabilia Auction at the inaugural Gold Coast ‘Festival of Elegance’ at the Links Hope Island Golf Club.

The eight-time Targa Tasmania, seven-time Bathurst 1000, four- time Australian Touring Car Champion and twice Touring Car Masters series-winner offered two suits at the auction.

The first was the blue Ford suit he wore when he and Ford Tickford Racing teammate Dean Canto drove their AU Falcon into fourth place in the 2001 V8 Supercar 1000.

The second was the one Richards used in the 2011-2012 Touring Car Master series while racing his Shannons Ford Falcon Sprint. They sold for $1500 each. The Festival of Elegance is the spiritual successor to the Gold Coast’s first Concours d’Elegance staged in 1969 by the late Keith Williams at the Chevron Hotel as part of Surfers Speed Week.
