V8 sportscar headed for Australia
AV8-powered Holden hero will live beyond the Commodore. It’s not clear yet if it will be the Corvette or the Camaro, perhaps something from Europe, or if the chosen one will actually wear a Holden badge, but GM in Detroit has definitely confirmed a V8-powered future in Australia.
“We will bring a Holden sports car in the future, in the near future,” confirmed Stefan Jacoby, head of General Motors International, at the Detroit auto show.
Despite speculation of a Corvette, Holden insiders in Australia point more to the Camaro. They say the car will be compatible with righthand drive production and more suitable for Australian customers.
It would also allow Holden to go head-to-head again with Ford once the Mustang is in local showrooms.
