has it that the producers of the original Mad Max movie built up an AMX as a MFP Interceptor car (yellow with blue and red markings) but an engine fire during pre-production saw the AMX deleted from the fleet of movie cars. It’s thought that AMX No.15 was that car.
The current owner, New Zealander Doug Kinney, doesn’t know if the Mad Max story is true or not but he reckons it’s a great story so will build it regardless.
He bought this car in July 2013 after coming across it on the net, flew across the ditch and drove down to Nowra where the car had been stored for 30 years in a shed not far from the sea. It had been stripped back to bare steel and given a coat of thick brown paint which is probably what stopped it being eaten away by rust.
The car was shipped back to New Zealand where, considering its condition, the owner decided to go with the Mad Max theme.
All the panel work has been finished and the engine, complete with supercharger, is ready to be installed. We hope to show you how it looks in the near future. Doug already owns another AMI AMX, bought in May 2014 from a guy in Adelaide who picked it up as a rolling shell some 20 years ago. This is No. 2 in the series.
