Run to Silverton
is brisk for the Mad Max 2 Museum at Silverton in outback NSW – and it’s only going to get busier this November, when the Aussie Muscle Car Run hits town.
Mad Max: Fury Road has heaped plenty of attention on the museum which has become the epicenter for the quartet of post apocalyptic flicks since it opened its doors in 2010.
The driving force behind the MM2 museum is Adrian Bennett. His passion for all things Mad Max began in his hometown of Bradford in Northern England in 1982 when he was dragged by mates to see a screening of the original and the sequel.
“Life for me then changed completely for me,” says Adrian. His interest – he says obsession – led to a move to Australia in 2006 and then Silverton in 2009 where the hard work began piecing together the museum. The museum gives visitors a comprehensive insight into what Mad Mad 2 – shot nearby – was all about. It offers a large collection of photographs, life-size characters in full costumes, various memorabilia and original and replica vehicles. Adrian says spring is the peak season for visitors and expects a tourism boom this year. The Aussie Muscle Car Run (see advertisement p21) will journey from Adelaide to Silverton and Broken Hill for Mad Max-flavoured activities in November and AMC will be along for the ride.
