Bathurst ’72 vision
long yearned to see footage of the race widely considered the greatest battle of the muscle car era – the Easter Monday 1972 ATCC dust-up between Allan Moffat and ‘Pete’ Geoghegan. With no TV coverage of that Bathurst battle, we hoped amateur vision of it would turn up. And so it has, thanks to autopics. com.au which is offering a new DVD with classic touring car and Tasman Series encounters shot from behind the spectator fences.
The vision shot at Murray’s Corner on April 3 headlines the compile that also includes Catalina Park (1964), Warwick Farm (’64, ’65, ’71 & ’73), Oran Park (’70 & ’71 ATCC) and Amaroo Park (’70).
Some footage was shot by Autopics’ own David Blanch. David would throw the family’s Super 8 camera in his bag when heading to race meets. He stresses that the 60 minutes of vision is “amateur in quality”, but provides a spectator’s eye view.
