“We

all worked together in a Holden parts warehouse in Sydney and we were keen to see our hero Brock win another Bathurst,” writes Anthony of his Bathurst 1986 pilgrimage. “We were not sure about having Moffat co-driving for this one, though! Somehow, we all wangled Friday off work and headed up to Mount Panorama. We had a shiny new VK Executive and we were all dressed in our Mobil jackets and Mobil hats. By the time we arrived, Moff had already buried the #05 car in the wall at Skyline. This confirmed our suspicions about him... Friday night at McPhillamy Park in the borrowed tent was cold and we felt despondent. On Saturday morning we walked along the track to warm up in the sunshine. Someone had sprayed “RIP 05” next to the furrows that were left by the Mobil Holden’s chassis rails in the Castrol concrete wall. But the story was not over! A massive effort was underway to rebuild Brock’s car and he gridded up in 11th position on Sunday morning. There was a Nissan on pole, but Gricey nailed a brilliant start from the front row and owned the track from then on, pushing his VK hard all day and taking a well-deserved win on Sunday afternoon. Harvey managed to lift the #3 MHDT VK to a second place finish ahead of the Nissan, which kept Johnson’s Mustang off the podium. Bewdy! We travelled home satisfied. To Holden fans, a host of known truths had been physically demonstrated.”
