More Aussie slot cars

Australian Muscle Car - - Muscle maniac -

issue we highlighted that off-the-shelf classic Aussie touring cars can now be raced on the nation’s – and others nations’ – slot car tracks. A decades-long relationship between local Scalextric distributor Southern Models and Scalextric UK headquarters is behind that brand’s monopoly on slot-sized Aussie muscle and current V8 Supercars. XB Falcon hardtops and LH Torana L34s were the first two Australian bodyshapes to be launched onto the market a few years ago, with various XB and LH liveries launched each year.

Now comes news of Scalextric’s 2016 releases, which include the first XC hardtop (the Moffat Cobra of 1978), the first LX Torana A9X sedan (Jack Brabham’s Bathurst ’78 entry), the first XY GT-HO (Goss’s 1972 Phase III). The locally-flavoured 1:32 range will also run to a Mad Max Interceptor, Jim Richards’ 1987 ATCCwinning M3, Mustang Sally, Dick Johnson’s victorious 1989 Tooheys 1000 Sierra, Audi’s distinctive Bathurst 12 Hour ‘Crocodile Car’ and the VW Beetle driven on the mountain in 1963 by this edition’s Muscle Man, Barry Ferguson.

We’d love for readers to send us images of their own versions of Bathurst and other local tracks. Send them to amcedito
