Bill Tuckey’s craft
W ell done on the latest issue (#88). To those who said you would run out of material, think again. Look and be impressed.
Actually, as you delve back beyond all the big, obvious stories and get into the real nitty-gritty of Australian motoring and motor racing in the past, the supporting cast, the hardluck stories, the ‘what ifs’, you are in Bill Tuckey territory.
This leads me to your fine obituary for Bill. It was comprehensive and respectful, but with the full flavour of the man. Only by reading all he wrote, as he wrote it, could you possibly appreciate all that he did for the sport, the Australian car industry and the motoring writing craft. And it was a craft the way Bill did it. How nice that you did that greater appreciation of his life’s work in AMC #73 while he was still with us. He would have known but he would not have liked any fuss. No nonsense; that was Bill.
Thank you, Luke and AMC. Furthermore, with Auto Action gone [ED: but soon to return], you are the last one standing to carry the flame.
