Ford Australia: where to from here?
The death of the Falcon is not the end for Ford Australia. More than 1500 engineers, designers and product specialists will still be working on future products and many of them will be based in buildings at Broadmeadows.
The You Yangs proving ground, which would not have been created without the Falcon and many other local development programs over the years, also continues.
Some of the product development activities at Geelong will also survive.
“The product development team is actually growing. Ford globally is investing more in products and Australia is one of the main hubs for that work,” says Ford Australia spokesman, Wes Sherwood.
“The pipeline is full of new work. We are refurbishing head office to become our regional product development centre.
“We still have our research-and-development centre in Geelong and there are more than 300 people at the development centre in Lara.
“We’re bursting at the seams a little bit with all the work for future products.”
