1966 VC Valiant V8
Joseph Michael owns the white VC V8 with the black vinyl roof you see one these pages. It’s one of a number of Chryslers the South Australian has. “I have heaps of Valiants. I’ve always loved them, ever since I was a kid; my father had one and used to take me to school in it.” Of course, SA being the home of Aussie-built Chryslers means that Valiants are extra special in that part of the world. “It’s all factory-spec. It still has the original 273 V8 in it.” The only additions are a radio under the dash, a fire-extinguisher bolted to the left-side footwell and chromed rocker covers. If Joe’s VC looks slightly lowered it’s because, well, it’s lowered itself over time. “It has the torsion-bar front-end on those cars which you can wind up and down,” he explains. Joe has owned it for 16 years and has seen very few in that same colour combo. The car has won ‘Best VC’ honours at Chrysler shows over the years.
