in the market for an original shape Monaro GTSs should bookmark Shannons’ Melbourne Late Summer Classic Auction on February 27 when two will go under the hammer.
For the ‘V8s or nothing’ set there’s a Warwick Yellow GTS 327, while a Silver Mink Metallic example of the often-underrated GTS 186S coupe is also up for grabs.
It’s rare for one Monaro GTS to come up for auction at any one time, so for two to be available amounts to a smorgasbord.
Then there’s an HQ GTS 308 sedan and a well- presented HR Holden.
Fans of HDT/HSV Commodores should note the following trio – a 1984 VK SS, a low-kilometre 1986 VL Group A SS HDT sedan and an HSV Group A Walkinshaw sedan. The Walkinshaw is expected to bring $82,000-$92,000.
On the blue oval side of the ledger things are bit quieter. In fact, the standout is a GT due to be auctioned at Shannons’ Sydney Summer Classic on February 6, after this issue closed for press, a 1972 XA GT sedan in the very 1970s colour of Copper Bronze, one of 104 made by Ford Australia. First delivered through Newcastle dealers Kloster, this early XA GT comes with an 8000rpm tacho and features the desirable D-block 351ci V8 with 4V heads, mated to an automatic transmission. It underwent a comprehensive rebuild in the mid-2000s, which saw the body stripped back to bare metal and repainted, and the engine fully rebuilt to factory correct specifications.
