was one of the very first Sports Sedans, and it proved the the­ory of stick­ing a big en­gine in a small car. But not ev­ery­one ap­proved of an Austin A95 Ford V8 (272ci Y-block en­gine); it so of­fended the scru­ti­neers that they tried to have it banned. The A95 was the cre­ation of Barry Sharp, an early 1960s Sports Sedan ‘vi­sion­ary’ re­spon­si­ble for other such hy­brid mon­sters as a su­per­charged V8 Ford Ze­phyr, and an FE Holden with a 289 Chev V8, converted (for rea­sons un­known) to left-hand-drive.
