NSW is now con­sid­ered to be within greater Syd­ney, but back in the six­ties it was still a long way from the grow­ing me­trop­o­lis. Re­gard­less, what evolved into the pro­duc­tion sedan cat­e­gory be­gan at the small town of Wind­sor near the Hawkes­bury River. Here a dirt track was built on a va­cant block next to the lo­cal RSL club. Which ex­plains why this cir­cuit was of­fi­cially known as the Wind­sor RSL Speed­way.

The oval’s length and width evolved over the years but was al­ways less than half a mile.
