Fresh imagery of the 1977 Hardie-Ferodo 1000, especially the 1-2 Moffat Ford Dealers ‘form finish’, is hard to come by for mags like AMC. So it was like a breath of fresh air when we first clapped eyes on Keith Trotter’s pics. This is Bathurst 1977 from the spectator’s perspective.
It’s not unusual for the magazine’s office to receive correspondence and phone calls from dubious characters big-noting themselves. Two common boasts fall into the ‘If we’ve heard it once, we’ve heard it a thousand times’ category. Firstly there’s: “I was one of Brocky’s best mates.” The other old chestnut is: “I was part of Moffat’s Bathurst ’77 pit crew.” Ahem. Allan’s archives contain his team’s Bathurst ’77 travel documents which list the names of his crewmembers receiving apparel and accommodation that weekend. These should help weed out some of the bullshitters.
