Car: Ford Capri GT Hometown: Adelaide Hills, SA

What is it?

“It’s a 1970 Ford Capri GT 3000 V6.”

When did you buy it?

“In March 1978. It was my rst decent car.”

Why did you buy it?

“All my mates were buying LJ Toranas and I wanted something different. At the time I was a second-year mechanic and a V6 Capri came into work for a service. Lucky me got the service job for it. After the service, naturally I had to test drive it to check all was in order and it was the long black bonnet that got me. I was hooked.

“For my own Capri GT 3000 V6 I paid $2000. It had 70,000 miles on the clock and the service history, and I’m the second owner. The car had some rust and tired paintwork. It looked like it spent most of the time outside, but it had no dents. Over the years I’ve kept the car in good working order and travelled lots of miles in it. I’ve tted front and rear swaybars, stronger springs front and rear, and updated the brakes and electrical systems.”

How does it go?

“The car is no powerhouse, but it’s a really good long distance car – 28mpg at highway speeds. True!”

Anything you’d like to add?

“I would like to thank Mt Barker Steel, Direct Care Australia and Adelaide Hills Toyota with their kind donation to help make life easier for the people suffering from Leukaemia.”
