McLaren’s new 650S is a souped-up supercar with a high-tech heart
IF Geneva’s ANNUA L motor show IS Big Day Out for petrol-heads, McLaren’s striking new 650S was this year’s Pearl Jam, an excitable, crowd-pleasing headline act built on a flawless back catalogue.
Taking its design lead from the $1.5 million, Forza 5- championing P1, the 650 refers to the pferdestärke – or horsepower, for non-German speakers – that surges from its twin turbo V8.
Showstopping elements from the P1 remain, including gull-wing doors and blade LED headlights, while all-new bodywork creates 24 per cent more downforce than even the brutish 12C. Drool-worthy interior tech also includes a high-res touchscreen with IRIS satnav, wireless tethering and voice control. $Tbc, mclaren.com, out 2014
