“I’ve got a ticket to space”

Australian T3 - - OPINION -

DR jos gal is set to be the first German dentist in orbit as he prepares for his $106,000 jaunt with virgin galactic’s dutch rival, the space expedition corporation (SXC ) “As a child it was always my dream to go to space. Only 500 people have been, compared to the billions who have lived on Earth, it is truly one of the last adventures you can have.

“So far I’ve done four training missions, some in New Zealand, Australia, France and Netherlands. I have also flown in fighter jets to prepare for the speeds of the SXC flight; they only reach mach 1.9, though, and I’ll need to hit nearly double that for the real ascent into space.

“The parabola zero-G gives great weightlessness, but you only get 20 seconds of it. I was in a large group of ten people and didn’t have much space either, but it’s still a great experience.

“During the SXC flight I’ll have five or ten minutes of zero gravity, but there won’t be much room to float around. It’s all about the experience and the view, though, as it means so much just to be there looking down at Earth. I can’t wait until we get to the stars. Currently, it looks like 2015.”
