Code Name: STEAM

Nintendo’s new 3DS title sees Abraham Lincoln put together a shooter squad to sort out invading aliens. Inspired by classic US comics, this strategy game looks as mental as it sounds. First contact? 2015 is an optimistic claim.

The Summit

Mark Zuckerberg, Elon Musk and the cream of the tech, app, startup and blogging communities take some time out from saying “Guinness? Urgh!” to talk at Dublin’s annual ideas fest. From November 4-6.

Google ARA

Google’s innovative new smartphone concept lets you build your own handset and upgrade only the parts you choose. The modular device is still in the development stage, but Google has hinted that it might hit by year’s end.

Windows 9

It’s fair to say that Windows 8 has had its critics. A new version of the operating system is believed to be bringing a more familiar task bar, the return of shutdown on Start and the ability to boot into desktop mode. Upgrade mid-2015.

Pixels

Aliens are invading. No, not because they’ve been told another Adam Sandler film is incoming; they’ve seen classic arcade games and decided Earth is a serious intergalactic threat. The button-bashing fight back will begin on May 15.

Grim Fandango

Sony managed to score a coup when it announced that this dark comedy caper will be coming to the Vita and PS4. Centred on an admin drone in the afterlife, it brilliantly blends elements of Beetlejuice and Aztec lore.

FA Cup Final 2015

There was almost an upset in this year’s FA Cup final, and we’ll be expecting just as much drama this time, with the new season coming just in time to help us forget that the Socceroos lost all three of their World Cup games.
