Book a hotel room in the clouds
With space tourism now the most show-offy way to fly, the humble plane has had to up its game to win over the oligarch crowd. The result is Etihad Airways’ ultra-exclusive cabin option called The Residence, which is effectively your own hotel room in the sky.
Sure to make those long-haul red eyes a little less bleary, it boasts a living room, bathroom and bedroom, which is certainly better than extra leg room. In the lounge you’ll find a 32-inch telly with Wi-Fi and live TV – not just the selected in-flight movies – all controlled via touchscreen handset. Naturally you’ll have your own mini bar to raid, too, but even better is your own butler for the flight.
Etihad will offer the service on flights to Abu Dhabi, Sydney, New York and London next year, so start saving those miles. $45,000 per flight, etihad.com/en-au, out 2015
