the smart bike rides on to kickstarter
Canadian firm Vanhawks’ Valour is no mere bicycle, but a fully fleged ride-on carbon-fibre fitness tracker. The crowd-funded bike sends stats from its integrated accelerometer and speed sensor to an iOS or Android app via good ol’ Bluetooth 4.0.
The conversation goes both ways, too, as the Valour can translate turn-by-turn navigation on your smartphone into LED prompts on the handlebars. Should the on-board ultrasonic sensor pick up objects in your blind spot, those bars then vibrate to alert you to imminent danger.
There’s no need to charge the thing, either, as all of the smarts inside are run by a clever dynamo in the front wheel that turns your erratic pedalling into pure tech power. C$1,399, vanhawks.com, out october
