Damon Albarn Everyday Robots
When he wasn’t busy cancelling Blur’s headline slot at the Big Day Out or pretending to be a melodically gifted cartoon character with Gorillaz, Damon Albarn found the time to record a new solo album. The weary tone of the recording is summed up perfectly by its cover art, with Albarn slumped in a stool staring at his shoes. While Albarn has never been averse to embracing his pessimistic side – one of Blur’s albums was titled Modern Life Is
Rubbish after all – he can always be counted on to deliver a big chorus when needed. There’s less of that here, but that’s fine.
