PC: RA ZER CHRISTI NE

Crown prince of the exciting “project” that never sees the light of day, US gaming firm Razer’s slick modular PC concept lets you swap processors and RAM in and out as your thirst for next-gen specs grows.

PHO NE: ZTE Eco-Mobius

The Chinese firm threw down its own switcheroo smartphone at CES 2014. The project isn’t moving forward with development but, looking at the picture here, that’s not necessarily a matter to weep over.

CAMERA : Ricoh GXR

These popular modular cameras don’t just let you swap lenses, oh no. Each lens also comes with its own sensor and image-processing engine. Clearly not cheap, but it does allow deep specialisation.
