Design Museum’s Alex Newson focuses on Fadell
Fadell has a history of taking the latest tech and turning it into something that integrates seamlessly with your life. His latest venture, Nest Labs, founded with fellow ex-Apple employee Matt Rogers, does what he did for portable music and personal computing to the emerging “internet of things”.
Nest produces networked and intelligent products that respond to our genuine needs. Products like the thermostat and smoke alarm (left) integrate without hassle into the home, helping protect us and make daily living more efficient and, with luck, over time, cheaper.
Google’s valuation of the company at over three billion dollars may have surprised some, but if Fadell’s track record is to be trusted this new branch of tech has a well-designed future.
