your pre-flight cam check
While the smartphone selfie might be good enough for documenting the day-to-day, if you’re going somewhere interesting on your travels, whether Bali or Baghdad, you’ll want to have more control over your snaps. For that you’ll need a dedicated camera that’s easy to use and built to fit in a carry-on.
The Stylus SH-1 is our current travel rep of choice, thanks to its first-class design – flash it at the check-in desk to raise your chances of an upgrade – and packed feature list. Alternatively, if you just want to relax on holiday and even operating the manual settings on a camera seems too much like hard work, the Canon SX700 is a great point-and-shoot that keeps things simple.
Similarly easy to operate, but offering a little more in the way of creative control via its manual exposure dial, is the Sony HS60V.
Want even more control than that? The only compact system camera on test, Samsung’s NX Mini, might be for you, then. It’s not the strongest CSC in town, but it’s a great compromise for those that want swappable lenses for a slither of the cost.
But if you’re after zoom, zoom, nothing but the zoom, the Nikon gives you absolutely top-notch eyesight.
