The keenly anticipated smartphone is here. It’s redesigned. With more power. And more beauty. We get our sweaty mitts on it…

Samsung has gone from plasticfantastic waterproofing in its outgoing Galaxy S5, to a stylish fusion of glass and metal in its latest model. Put simply, the Galaxy S6 is a much better phone than its predecessor. It feels very well packaged, the combination of metal unibody and Gorilla Glass 4 giving no hint of creak or give when pressed. And what’s more, it’s just 6.8mm thick.

The South Korean giant has gone bold with this design, in more ways than one. It’s got rid of two of the staples that users have loved for years: the microSD slot has been removed and the battery is locked in. This is to improve performance and speed. Samsung is offering the S6 in 32GB, 64GB and 128GB flavours to compensate, but those latter options are pretty expensive.

Locally, the phone comes in just two of the four colours available worldwide – White Pearl and Black Sapphire – but it still looks great, its jewel-like exterior changing hue as the light hits it. The lovely translucent effect only adds to the premium feel. FROM $999, SAMSUNG.COM/AU, OUT NOW
