Australian T3 - - PLAY -

Undead Studio’s open-world zombiethumper gets the new generation treatment and if you’ve never played it before, just purchase it now. Really. You won’t be disappointed (unless you’re more interested in portly plumbers or cone-hatwearing elves, in which case what are doing on Microsoft’s platform?).

State Of Decay mixes third-person RPG mechanics with crafting and resource management, making players feel as though they are smack-bang in the middle of a lifethreatening apocalypse. The fact it adds the odd jolt of pure terror is just the icing.

For those who’ve already shelled out for State Of Decay on the last gen, here’s what you get: the game is running on 1080p and the two DLC packs – Lifeline and Breakdown – come packaged along with some new content that Undead Studios is being rather tight-lipped about.

This is about as close to The Walking Dead as you’ll get without starring in it. Or the world going to hell in a handcart – whichever comes first. $30, UNDEADLABS.COM, OUT 28 APRIL ON XBO

Queues for the Apple Watch were growing increasingly fraught…
