Your smart­phone can record in 4K and is with you all the time, but would you dare strap it to your hel­met to film you bar­relling down a moun­tain? DSLRs have al­most got­ten to the point of pro­duc­ing Hol­ly­wood-grade video, but are im­pos­si­bly weighty. The ac­tion cam, though, will be hap­pily wedged in, strapped on, shoved in, un­der and on top of what­ever you dare af­fix it to, and a good ex­am­ple can truly en­hance your hol­i­day or ac­tiv­i­ties. Plus, they’re (usu­ally) small enough so that no-one feels self con­scious around them, and they of­fer in­cred­i­ble re­sults for both video and stills.
