Nice watch. What’s the story here?
This is the Fitbit Ionic, a GPS fitness smartwatch created especially for breaking a sweat. It has a lightweight body and breathable elastomer strap, a large, full-colour display and three physical buttons – there to make the watch more driver-friendly during a punishing high-impact session.
I like to swim. Does the Ionic?
Yes! The Ionic is waterproof to 50 metres and has swim-tracking capabilities, offering you stats on laps, duration in the pool and calories burned. Back on dry land, the Ionic uses SmartTrack and Multi-Sport Mode to automatically track a range of fitness activities including running, cycling and weights. All-day activity monitoring also serves up data on steps taken, floors climbed, time spent being active or stationary, and sleep tracking.
What about heart rate monitoring?
That’s handled by PurePulse HR tech, which dishes out continuous heart-rate tracking from the wrist. Other fitness-focused features to check out include auto-pause during workouts. Speaking of which, there’s a range of tailored workouts available via the Fitbit Coach app, with audio workouts coming soon.
I like that display…
It’s one of our favourite features, too. The Ionic stands out from many other fitness smartwatches thanks to that full-colour, rectangular LCD touchscreen display. We also like the breathable elastomer straps, currently available in three two-tone colour combinations: Blue-Grey/Silver-Grey, Slate Blue/Burnt Orange, and Charcoal/Smoke Grey.
Nice. When can I buy this?
The Fitbit Ionic is available to buy and wrap around wrist right now.
