EVE BUTTON $83, elgato.com

This is a stylish unit that looks more ‘smart home’ than any of the others here. It also differs by being the only one that doesn’t come with any sticky backing, though you could add this yourself. As with all Eve products, Button only works with iOS – there’s a wide range of HomeKit-compatible devices it can control. You can install it either in the Eve app or the Home app; the latter is our preference as it’s more intuitive, though the former allows for more granular control over the button’s actions. Eve offers three ways to press the button (single, double and long press), but unusually it can’t perform different actions from the same type of press (such as turning lights on and then off from consecutive presses). Included are various smart home icon stickers, to display what controls you’ve assigned to it, though they look a little cheap.

VERDICT

T3 SAYS A good-looking option for those loyal to HomeKit. It’s easy to use, though a little on the pricey side and button customisation is more limited.
