Family legacy supported by loyal partnership
We meet the people who have made Castrol the choice of engine protection
“The Walter Farm started using Castrol RX Super 28 years ago”
Castrol RX Super has protected Australian livelihoods for over 35 years. This year, inspired by a customer’s engine which ran for over 2.5 million kilometres, solely serviced using Castrol RX Super, we’re telling the stories of the people that have made the oil brand the choice of protection for truck drivers, fleet owners and farmers alike.
WALTER FARMING (AH & GM WALTER PTY LTD)
Andrew Walter represents the 4th generation of Walter Farming in Violet Town, 50kms southeast of Shepparton. Andrew, with his mother Gladys, own and operate a broad acre farm which grows annual winter crops and manages a sheep grazing operation. Alan Walter, the patriarch of the family established the business with Gladys in 1968. It has been a year since Alan passed but his legacy lives on through his family and farm.
The Walter farming operation spans over 3500 acres in total, which includes share farming and leased land. In their fleet they operate two Freightliner prime movers, five operational tractors with an asset list of over fift y items.
Andrew Walter represents a new generation of farmer with old fashioned values instilled in him from his mum and dad. He is very well educated, holding a Bachelor of Science (Hons) from University of Melbourne and a PhD in Plant Molecular Breeding from the Australian National University. He has been on multiple Government Advisory Committees and consults and has consulted for various state and federal governments, research companies, agricultural corporations and the United Nations.
Andrew believes that it’s not only the quality of the product which is important to protecting his business but the quality of the service and the support. The Walter family has had a long term business partner and ally with Leo Schoonderbeek from Konigs, a Castrol Reseller for 25 years in Shepparton.
On reflecting on the support from Leo Schoonderbeek from Konigs Shepparton over the years:
“I have a lot of time for Leo and Bev from Konigs Shepparton. Back when Dad was running the farm, Leo was a Service Manager for the local John Deere dealership. He would come out in the middle of the night to help Dad fi x his machinery if ever there was a problem. When Leo started his own business at Konigs, we followed him as the local Castrol reseller. The Walter Farm had started using Castrol RX Super 28 years ago and Leo was pretty much there from the very beginning. More than selling a quality product, we value his loyalty and support not to mention the many years of bantering, we wouldn’t choose anyone else to serve our business”.
