The best in town

Avon Valley Gazette - - FRONT PAGE - with Stephen Miles

OUR recent survey confirmed that 94 per cent of readers like to shop locally; and that’s not all they like about our local patch.

The Hills Gazette surveyed locals over the past few weeks to identify favourite parks, drinking places and even where to service a car.

Not surprisingly, coffee shops, pubs and Swan Valley wineries came up big in the poll.

Patch of Country ‘tea shoppe’ and Dome Midland were particularly popular.

We like Mondo’s in Midland for its variety and affordability.

What shone through during our survey was just how wide appreciation was for the local area.

Whether it be a quiet part of the Hills or a bustling Saturday in Midland, our eateries are the equivalent of any in the metropolitan area and our businesses proud of the personal service they provide to customers

A survey by NAB found Australian businesses receive 45 per cent of their sales from local customers. Consumers say they prefer to shop locally but we all need to follow through on our convictions.

So this week, here at the Gazette, we are encouraging readers to visit the local baker, buy from the local florist and sit down at your neighbourhood coffee shop.

Even better, continue to do so throughout the year, because in this area, the buck stops with small business.

If local shops thrive – the startups, independents and family businesses – the local economy thrives and ultimately, jobs are created.

Most people love the area they live in and were happy to share with us the reasons why. Read on to see what others just like you like about the suburbs we call home.
