Avon Valley Gazette - - OPINION -

QUITE often one can subtitle the Letters to the Editor page as “Whingers and Whiners Corner”, so I’d like to offer a positive comment.

Over five to six years our neighbours and we have been endeavouring to get some action over a pressing concern.

Within our midst, there is an absentee landlord who has allowed his property to build up a dangerous fuel load.

We have offered to clear the foliage, debris and so forth, but to no avail.

As our properties are bordered on the eastern side by uncleared land, we are at a high fire risk.

Approaches, emails, letters and phone calls to the various authorities have proved to be useless.

As a final resort, we put our case to the MLA for Swan Hills, Frank Alban. As others had proved to be deaf to our pleas, we held little hope.

We couldn’t believe it: he made a time and arrived early, armed with notes, pen and paper and a camera.

He immediately acknowledged concern for our plight and outlined an approach of solution rather than consultation.

Frank Alban may not be a political media star but he’s an MP who works hard to look after his constituents.

Keep and eye out for Frank and his family always attending so many local events.

An A-positive for this supportive politician. BARBARA GOULDEN, Glen Forrest.
