Avon Valley Gazette - - EDUCATION MATTERS -

YEAR 3 students at Swan Valley Anglican Community School have been discussing the topic of community in their Inquiry subject.

The classes explored and questioned what it meant to be part of a community.

Year 3 teacher Mrs Cymer said the team was excited to organise a visit from members of the Ellenbrook Fire Station, where they demonstrated their equipment and talked about their role in the community and the type of work they encounter.

Students used the fire hoses, explored the trucks and discussed a range of fire safety routines.

“It was very pleasing to hear the range of questions the students posed,” Mrs Cymer said.

“Important information gained was that children need to know the 000 emergency number, their address and cross road, full name, why they need help and not to hang up.

“Overall, the visit went very well with great reviews from the staff, students and our guests.”
