PAR­ENTS can help chil­dren pre­pare for pre- school or con­tinue learn­ing at home over the long sum­mer hol­i­day by us­ing a free app. The Learn­ing Po­ten­tial is a Gov­ern­ment ini­tia­tive of­fer­ing hun­dreds of ar­ti­cles, ac­tiv­ity ideas, games and videos for fam­i­lies with chil­dren ‘ in the high chair to high school’, com­plete with new up­dates and par­ent tips. Fed­eral Mem­ber for Pearce Chris­tian Porter said the app, down­loaded 118,000 times, was pop­u­lar with lo­cal par­ents since it be­came avail­able more than a year ago. “The Learn­ing Po­ten­tial app is a trusted re­source for par­ents across the coun­try be­cause it uses the lat­est na­tional and in­ter­na­tional re­search and is de­signed in col­lab­o­ra­tion with ex­pert agen­cies, like the Aus­tralian Cur­ricu­lum, As­sess­ment and Re­port­ing Author­ity and the Of­fice of the Chil­dren’s E- Safety Com­mis­sioner,” he said. Mr Porter said it was easy to use and helped par­ents in their role as the first teacher in their child's life. “In the face of Aus­tralia’s de­clin­ing rank­ings in in­ter­na­tional ed­u­ca­tion bench­marks, the Gov­ern­ment’s Learn­ing Po­ten­tial app gives par­ents ways to eas­ily share ad­vice, tips and ideas on be­ing ac­tively in­volved in their child’s learn­ing and to ul­ti­mately help boost their per­sonal skills and ed­u­ca­tion out­comes,” he said.
