STARGAZERS in search of a prime spot to see the ‘ su­per blue blood moon’ soar over trees should check out view­ing points in the Perth Hills.

Shire of Mun­dar­ing lists south ledge plat­form at Mun­dar­ing Weir and Lake Leschenaultia as top venues to wit­ness the first spec­ta­cle of its kind since 1866.

The Jan­uary 31 event will not be re­peated for an­other 20 years.

Mun­dar­ing Shire said the su­per moon will be the sec­ond full moon of 2018 and will light up the sky on the same day it or­bits clos­est to Earth.

The to­tal eclipse will be vis­i­ble over trees from about 8.15pm, with cop­per- coloured hues ex­pected from 9.15pm to about 9.45pm.
