READ IT ONLINE FIRST FOR those who thought libraries were a dying breed, look no further than some of the success stories coming from the $ 10.1 million Katharine Susannah Prichard Library in Boya, which opened just over a year ago to replace the demolished library in Greenmount.

In the past 12 months there have been 2451 new members, representing an increase of 375 per cent.

The library has welcomed more than 76,000 visitors, an increase of 68 per cent compared to the previous year.

Shire of Mundaring President John Daw said he was delighted the library had been embraced by residents representing all demographic groups.

“Traditionally libraries provide a no- cost access to books and a quiet place to read, but we believe many of today’s public libraries are taking on newer roles,” he said.

“For example, the KSP Library offers new technology, accessible screens and an environment where people of all ages can explore and learn new technology. “It’s definitely a place for innovation”. Wi- Fi sessions have increased by 600 per cent since the library opened, while about 600 people have attended author talks and more than 240 children have attended school holiday activities at the library.
