Give Motown a shake

Avon Valley Gazette - - LET'S EAT -

MORE than 600 people packed the lawns of the historic Parkerville Tavern in February last year for a Hills- shaking blues concert.

And in 2018, the Milford Street Shakers are set to do it again with Motown Hits The Hills.

Band leader Dom D’Leno said it was one of the band’s favourite performances of the year.

This year’s concert will be on Saturday, April 7, 6pm to 9pm and will be supported by singer- songwriter Reo Dunn ( Te Reotakiwa Dunn), a New Zealand artist who won best Maori album in 2006.

His voice has been compared to that of Stevie Wonder and his repertoire of R& B and blues tunes will be a perfect complement to the Milford Street Shakers.

The nine- piece Milford Street Shakers features the powerhouse voice of Lee Morunga, who spent 10 years touring with The Lion King with Disney throughout Europe and Australia.

Parkerville Tavern director Joanne O’Connor said she was anticipating this year’s concert would be bigger and better.

“People were up on the grass and dancing almost as soon as the first chords were struck and we’re expecting the same again this year,” she says.

D’Leno said the band wanted to bring something a little different to its audiences with their smart ’ 60s- style dress and soul sound.

“There’s certainly nothing like us in WA,” he says.

Tickets are $ 25, with children under six free. They are available from https:// motown- hills- apr2018. eventbrite. com. au or on a first- come, first- served basis at the gate.

Milford Street Shakers will have Parkerville Tavern toes tapping.
