Hire company exploring space

Avon Valley Gazette - - LET'S EAT -

ECU has taken steps to turn lecture theatres between classes and semesters from a ghost town to a hive of activity.

ECU has listed 17 spaces across the two campuses on SpacetoCo, a space- sharing website where businesses and organisations advertise space available for short- term hire.

The brainchild of Hills residents Jeremy Hurst, Daniel McCullen and Daniel Franco, the website was launched in 2016 and now has more than 300 location offerings.

ECU manager of quality and services delivery Karen Gilmore said state- of- the- art facilities sat dormant, particularly between semesters.

“Holiday periods can be quiet on both the Mt Lawley and Joondalup campuses,” she said.

“We wanted to make the community aware that there are state- of- the- art facilities centrally located with easy access for a variety of purposes from meetings, conferences, training seminars to sports clubs.”

She said spaces were also available on the Bunbury campus, which should be on the site soon.

Mr McCullen said anything from backyards to warehouses were available to rent out short- term.

Space can be advertised on the site for free, with SpacetoCo taking a small cut of the booking.
