Avon Valley Gazette - - OPINION -

I RECENTLY came to Guildford for the first time to visit a friend and was so impressed by its character and charm.

I would have never have imagined a town like this to exist in modern day suburban Australia.

When I arrived it felt like I was stepping back in time and into another world. I was even more surprised I’d never heard about it previously despite having visited Perth several times and seen what I thought were all the main tourist sites.

This hidden gem is certainly worthy of more recognition and exposure as one of Australia’s main heritage attractions. It is remarkable to comprehend that the rare beauty and charm of Guildford would be overlooked in favour of any development.

As modern day Australians we need to recognise and connect to the short history we’ve had and in doing so preserve places like Guildford for future generations and our greater cultural liveli- hood. It is a truly unique and special place that deserves to be cherished and preserved indefinitely. PHIL DAVID, Manly, NSW
