CHARACTER OF WA’S UNIQUE JEWEL NEEDS PROTECTION
WE stumbled on an unexpected gem while on holidays.
Coming from a tourist area in South Australia we were looking forward to two weeks in the Margaret River region. What a pleasant surprise spending our first two days in Guildford before we headed off south.
Firstly, a great visitor centre surrounded by parks, heritage buildings and galleries.
With walking map in hand, what a wonderful time capsule this area is. Gardens, heritage buildings, information panels and friendly locals keen to share their pride in being a part of this unique historical hub and yet nervous about changes.
I am writing because we did notice new, out- of- character multi- storey buildings, flats and other developments appear to be creeping in. I do hope the historic town classification will retain and protect this unique jewel in WA. STEPHEN HEDGES, Victor Harbor, South Australia
