Rain de­lays burn

THIS week’s wet weather forced the de­lay of a con­trolled burn to pro­tect one of Perth’s grow­ing ar­eas from fu­ture fires. The Parks and Wildlife Ser­vice burnt 10ha on Wed­nes­day in the Gnan­gara State For­est, 2km west of the El­len­brook town cen­tre, af­ter rain forced the can­cel­la­tion of the burn on Tues­day. The Depart­ment of Bio­di­ver­sity, Con­ser­va­tion and At­trac­tions was able to light con­trolled fires across 91ha in Pin­jar. It con­ducts the pre­scribed burns “for for­est man­age­ment and to man­age bush­fire risk and bio­di­ver­sity”.
