U16 OUR ONLY GF HOPE
Young guns carry the St George Saints club to the decider this year
LEAGUE After a tough season for the Saints, plagued by a string of heavy losses, our only hope for this weekend’s Roma and District grand final are the Under 16 boys.
The at times forgotten side has struggled for games this season with only three teams in the competition.
However, coach Dan Dwyer said the boys had really pulled together in the past few weeks. “It has been a pretty ordinary season for the competition to be honest, and with only three teams in the fixtures they boys have found it really hard to get and stay fit for games,” Dwyer said.
“We have also struggled to get consistent numbers to training, which is also hard, but that being said, the boys, when they have played, have done really well.
“Particularly in the last few games they have really come together as a team and their skills have improved immensely.”
Dwyer also said at training the boys who arrived early were eager to get into training and spirits had been high since they found out they were in the grand final.
“The boys are great, they listen and are always enthusiastic to get in and play, and the boys’ parents are all supportive which is a great help throughout the season,” he said.
With all but the Under 16s out of the grand final games this weekend in Roma, the boys hold the club’s only hope at securing an overall win for the season.
“I know the boys will do me and the club proud this weekend, no matter the score, as long as they give it their best shot,” Dwyer said.
