Plan for growing the shire
THE Balonne Shire Council’s adoption of a four-year economic development plan places its focus on four economic pillars – sheep and cattle grazing; grain and cotton; horticulture; and tourism and events.
Mayor Richard Marsh said the new economic development plan would be used by the council to enhance the vibrancy, liveability and economic sustainability of the shire’s communities.
“This is a very important document which will drive council’s decisions on development in our shire,” Cr Marsh said.
“Sustainability is key to our communities surviving and thriving and this plan will aid council planning to drive growth in the four economic pillars.
“Our shire is strategically in a great position to build on what we do best and nurture new industries in our region.
“If we can boost industry, we will boost employment opportunities, which in turn will bring more people to our towns.
“Council has an important role to play in ensuring our communities grow and this plan will help us achieve that goal,” he said.
