New faces join Great Inland Way

Balonne Beacon - - NEWS -

THE Great Inland Way Committee has welcomed in its new executive, with members for the tourism gateway originating from across the Warrego.

The committee works to maintain the Great Inland Way, a road route that travels from Sydney through southwest Queensland, up into Cooktown.

The route is popular with tourists from the south, brining thousands of people into Queensland each year.

“It was great to be able to have a meeting face to face with everyone from the different regions,” new committee chair Puddy Chandler said.

“The whole idea of the committee is to promote the drive trail, through brochures and signage. Every town on the drive trail is invited to be a member, as it’s all about connections and giving people a map.

“We also have a Facebook page where towns can add photos so travellers can see what is along the route.”

St George’s Robyn Furnhmeister is the new vice-president, Wendy Newman is the secretary and Dennis Daly will take over as treasurer.

AGM MEET: Justine Miller, Peter Grigg, Puddy Chandler, Dennis Daly and Wendy Newman.
