Oops ... we missed our 150th

Balonne Beacon - - BEST OF THE WEST -

EXCITEMENT could be felt in the air in Charleville over the weekend, because it’s not every day a town turns 150.

It’s even more rare to hit the milestone twice, thanks to a small error in the records.

Alas, two birthdays are better than one, so Charleville went all-out, to the theme of “oops, we missed it” on what will forever be known as it’s 150th and 153rd birthday.

Events began on Thursday evening with barefoot bowls at Charleville Bowls Club, and a new photography exhibition, Murweh Through My Eyes, at the Mulga Lands Gallery.

Saturday was the day for dressing up and partying down, when Morven Racecourse held its annual race meet.

But all of that excitement was only a prelude to the main event: the Fur Ball.
