ST GEORGE residents will need to prepare themselves for summer, with the ongoing drought forcing the town to move up to level two summer water restrictions.

The change will come in to effect on Monday, October 1.

Council’s water allocation from the SunWater St George water supply scheme is currently sitting at 1500ML-1000ML, which has activated the Level 2 Summer Water Restrictions.

This is outlined under the St George Water Restriction Policy.

Restrictions will mainly concern gardens, which residents will only be able to water between 6-8am and 6-8pm on their allocated days.

Council has also offered other garden tips to help with the water restrictions, including removing weeds so they do not compete with plants for water, and encouraging greater root growth with watering techniques.

Planting native species has also been recommended as a solution, because they require less water and maintenance.

Use of watering systems not drawing from the town water supply, such as a property bore, should be accompanied by appropriate signage clearly visible from the street.
