Desire to help drives hay run

Balonne Beacon - - BEST OG THE WEST -

DRIVEN by a desire to help those affected by drought, Lynne Argent and David Maynard were at the helm of a hay run to Morven at the weekend, a “humbling” and successful mission that brought relief, tears and new friendships along with much-needed supplies.

As spokeswoman for the Morven Hay Runners, Ms Argent said she was already planning next year’s event “so we can make a massive impact, not just a big impact”.

Ms Argent, who runs the Ole Lollie Shop stores and is based in Brisbane, teamed up with Mr Maynard, who runs the 4x4 Rescue Club in the Glasshouse Mountains, and about 25 others to organise a convoy of trucks, four-wheel-drives and cars to undertake the journey to Morven laden with cash donations, pallets of water, hay, stock feed, food, gift vouchers, groceries and plenty of other supplies.

In the past two months, the dedicated team raised about $14,000 via social media, donations made in person and country markets.
