More funding announced
LAST week Nationals MP Barnaby Joyce announced a $5 billion future drought fund, $3.9 billion up front, to address issues, in the short term and long term, to support farmers and rural communities. Part of this will fund important water infrastructure and drought resilience projects as well further helping farmers in drought right now by cutting red tape and tackling gaps that need addressing.
Mr Joyce said they were already speeding up and simplifying Farm Household Allowance and had cut back the application form by a third.
Rural Financial Counsellors are set to help with the process and more than 100 staff are already assisting thousands of people and more staff will be on the ground very soon. The Drought Finance Taskforce also came together to discuss the cash flow issues.
