Take part in fish­ery groups

NORTH­SIDE res­i­dents with an in­ter­est in fish­ing are en­cour­aged to regis­ter their in­ter­est in be­com­ing part of the big­gest re­form in Queens­land’s fish­eries man­age­ment for a gen­er­a­tion.

Ex­pres­sions of in­ter­est are be­ing sought from ex­pe­ri­enced in­di­vid­u­als to join one of three new fish­ery work­ing groups.

Mem­ber for Sandgate Stir­ling Hinchliffe said peo­ple were needed to be part of the east coast trawl, crab, and east coast in­shore work­ing groups.

He said the groups would pro­vide ad­vice on man­age­ment op­tions and de­vel­op­ing a har­vest strat­egy.

Fish­eries Queens­land is seek­ing peo­ple with knowl­edge from a range of sec­tors in­clud­ing recre­ational, com­mer­cial or indige­nous fish­ers, char­ter fish­ing li­cence hold­ers, fish­ing tackle re­tail­ers, re­search or sci­en­tific ad­vi­sors, seafood mar­keters and pro­ces­sors, or peo­ple with con­ser­va­tion ex­pe­ri­ence
