Bring white sand to northside beaches

Bayside and Northern Suburbs Star - - NEWS -

IMAGINE beautiful pure white sand between your toes right here at Sandgate, Shornclifffe and Brighton.

This letter is to everyone who would benefit from such a move and to everyone in a position to make it happen.

Beaches at the Shorncliffe enclosure near Moora Park and the pier, at Sandgate beside the pool complex, between Ninth and Tenth Avenues and at Nineteenth Avenue, Brighton are great areas for children, sunbathers and picnics that could be made to look and feel so much more attractive with a touch of white sand.

Here’s the sting. Now that the laying of sand on the new Brisbane Airport Runway is completed Brisbane Airport Corporation has a huge excess of beautiful white sand which needs to be disposed of.

How about the powers that be of both Brisbane Airport Corporation and our local council or parliament get talking and put some of this sand, which has been dredged from Moreton Bay, back onto the foreshore.

What a great gift to the community it would be from the Brisbane Airport Corporation.

Come on let’s have a go and see if we can get this little project off the ground.

It would be great if the Airport Corporation, the Mayor, local state member and councillor and anyone else passionate about making the area more beautiful could make this a goer.

So folks please contact your local member if you are behind this idea. — D.A, Sandgate
